The hall is available for hire by groups and clubs and by members of the public, both from within and outside the village. Hire rates and booking information are available upon request from Lee Acaster on 01379 831682.

Village Hall Activities

The Hall is used for a range of clubs and activities.

The regular activities currently include:

A brief history of Wortham Village Hall

The land that the hall is built on was gifted to the parish by a local farmer, Herbert Warren in 1951. The original building was erected in 1952. It was one half of a Nissan hut from a RAF base no longer required after the end of WW2 - the other half of the hut became Hinderclay's village hall.

In 1968 the hall became a Community Centre for Wortham and the nearby village of Burgate.

In 1974, Wortham's 'hut' was given a new lease of life with an extension and brick skin. A further extension in the form of a new kitchen took place in 1991 and in January 2008, the toilets and entrance to the hall were upgraded to provide facilities for the disabled. The hall itself was refurbished in 2010 and the kitchen was re-fitted in 2014.

The Management of the Hall

The running of the hall is the responsibility of the Management Committee which includes elected officers and representatives from various organisations using the hall. The committee meets four or five times each year.

The Committee is keen to attract new members from the local community who would be interested in helping us manage and maintain this valuable village resource.

Recycling at the Village Hall

The recycling centre for Wortham and Burgate is located at the Village Hall. There are facilities for recycling glass, newspapers, magazines, clothes and shoes. Everything you recycle earns money for the Village Hall. So please help us by recycling as much as possible.

When using the bottle bank please make sure you put the glass into the correct container. Clear glass has a higher value than coloured glass if the container has not been contaminated by a colour. You can recycle food jars as well as drinks bottles. Please help us by keeping the site clean and tidy.
