Summary of past few years

SUMMARY OF 2018 SEASON

Several new members joined in April and soon found themselves playing league fixtures.

A strong start to the season helped secure our position in both leagues and once again we focused our efforts on ensuring that both Wortham and visiting clubs enjoyed the bowling and hospitality.  For the fifth year running Wortham retained the trophy played for against Walsham-le-Willows.

The clubs fundraising went well and the local support for the clubs Annual Whisky Draw is appreciated

Over the past few years the number of playing members has increased, so the club have successfully applied to join the Bury & District League which means that a third team will play each week.  This will ensure that all players seeking competitive matches will have plenty of opportunity to play in 2019.

SUMMARY OF 2017 SEASON

The season began with a fine day to open the green on April 23rd and all players looked forward to a good years bowling

League results were varied with some remarkable victories and some disappointing defeats, but we never lost sight that it's a game and should be enjoyed

Cup matches went well in 2017 as Wortham entered the Bullen Cup Challenge for the first time for some years and were pleased to win through to the semi-finals. In the Upper Waveney Cup & Plate challenge, we were also successful reaching the finals but losing a close match against Beeches Bowls Club

In the friendly matches, we won some and lost some but as these are such enjoyable afternoon games, all players are keen to repeat the events next year.  For the fourth year running Wortham retained the trophy played for against Walsham-le-Willows.

So overall, the season brought many highlights and enjoyable moments and Wortham's bowlers, being optimists, are already looking forward to 2018

SUMMARY OF 2016 SEASON

The season began with wet and windy weather and the first few away fixtures were played on heavy greens

Overall, the league and cup results were very satisfactory.  It was our first year promoted back into Division One of the Upper Waveney League, so we were pleased to finish in mid-table and tied third in the Stowmarket League

Wortham hosted the Upper Waveney Plate Final match in August, played out between Thornham Magna and Beeches

The friendly fixtures were somewhat hit by the wet weather making play impossible for the first match. the results were fairly close overall and everyone enjoyed these informal afternoon games (not to mention the tea and cakes) voting to repeat them in 2017

Our green was complimented by many of the visiting clubs which is a tribute to the efforts of our green-keeper, Charlie Gooderham and his willing helpers putting in the hours tending the grass

The newer members made a worthy contribution in league play and our fundraising events went well, boosting the club funds

Despite the vagaries of the weather, the season was generally satisfying to players and they look forward to 2017
